About Me

About the Author

Martin Kubala is a Slovak visual artist and the author of his own artistic language, Kubalism – a style that combines mythology, nature, consciousness and precise craftsmanship.

He has been drawing since childhood – literally since kindergarten, where his passion for line, detail and symbolism was evident at an early age.

Since 2009, he has been mainly engaged in commissioned work, and over the years he has gone through various techniques – from acrylic, oil painting, dry pastel to combined media. Nevertheless, he is most fascinated and defined by ink – a medium that allows him to create works full of patience, layers and meaning.

His characteristic black and white drawing is built on thousands of lines and intuitive hatching, where complex compositions unfold as visual narratives. The paintings intertwine trees, animals, female archetypes, symbols and natural cycles – nothing is random, everything has its own story.

However, he is currently returning to color compositions – he is starting to work with color again, and is expanding his expression towards more vivid visual worlds.

He studied at the Secondary School of Arts in Kremnica (2000 – 2004), then studied architecture at university for one semester, but voluntarily dropped out and went to live abroad.

Creation and Philosophy

Kubalism is not just a style. It is a visual philosophy in which man transforms into a part of nature, time, and consciousness.

Each work is created entirely by hand, without digital intervention. The paintings combine intense concentration, artisanal discipline, and intuitive imagination.

Up to 90% of my work is created between 4 and 8 a.m. – a time when the world is still quiet, the mind is clear and the spirit is more receptive. While drawing, I listen to Mozart, as well as classical and oriental music, which helps me tune into the inner rhythm of the painting.

My works can be read on multiple levels - as a detailed drawing, as a symbolic map, and as a meditation.
